A Mutual Break-Up Story
by Liam Pieper
It happened after the crucifixion.
We walked down by the lake, eating ice-creams and holding hands,
away from the crowds. Then we skimmed stones and watched the sun
go down behind the man on the cross whose skin was blistered and
bubbling, shredded from the bolder scavengers ripping bits off,
and the crowd were getting bored with jeering and started to throw
rocks, and although neither of us said it we were both thinking,
'That's our love up on that cross, eh?'
