The Class (Entre Les Murs) - a quite excellent, intensely realist portrayal of a teacher up against a tough class. Won the Palm d’Or.
Mamma Mia - could only watch about 15 minutes of this. It seemed dreadful. Stupid beyond words, but not even entertainingly so. And horrible songs. Not evern Meryl Streep could save this stinker.
Altered States - very strange “freak out” movie by Ken Russell. I loved it at the beginning, where it showd this guy who was intent on exploring the depths of his self, and using things like sensory-deprivation tank and hallucinogens (plus both combined!) to do so. But then it got into this sci-fi horror stuff where his inner experiences started to seep into physical reality, and frankly I thought it got very very silly.
